Beating cars like the Miata, the RX7, all Porsches, and the Nissan 200SX.
How many were sold? 7.

I was about to be excited to find a secret stash of SVXs And then you said there were 7 of them. And now I’m sad.

Seriously? Not a single Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche was sold to the country that year? Nissan, Toyota and Honda had an absurd about of sports cars on the market - they sold not a single Prelude, Integra, 180SX, MR2, Supra, Celica, CRX?
I find it hard to believe.

Norway had a specific sports/luxury car tax at that time, making cars with sporty ambitions close to unsellable. The 180SX was called 200SX here, the Integra, MR2, Supra and CRX wasn’t even offered here at that time. Not sure about the Prelude and the Celica, they may have fallen in another cathegory, or not offered as well. The list I have is:
Subaru SVX: 7
Mazda MX-5: 5
Mazda RX-7: 4
Porsche: 4
Mercedes Benz SL: 3
Nissan 200SX: 3
Ferrari: 0
It is important to note that this was the worst year for car sales in Norway since 1960 though, because of a financial crisis and all that. Only 5259 new cars were registered here that year.

That’s insane! What a strange time for Norway.
I wish countries wouldn’t impose rules and taxes like this.

The tax was removed in 1996-ish, when the economy was better. We get it both ways though: Since electric cars don’t have any taxes right now, the Tesla Model S has been one of the best selling cars here the last three years.

Great, if you want a Tesla! Shame for enthusiasts though. At least the sports tax wasn’t kept around forever.
